A Message from Dawn

The Stamp Out Suicide! website has helped many, many people in distress and others bereaved by suicide throughout the UK, Ireland and beyond. Sadly, although the site was proving helpful, I had to remove the contact page to prevent people in distress, or those bereaved by suicide, from making contact. Please understand I did this with a very, very heavy heart but with good reason - because I knew I wasn't always going to be available to respond and this website was never intended to be an advice or support service. I have a BSc. (Hons) in Applied Psychology and an MSc. in Applied Forensic Psychology and have worked in academic and other psychology settings but on returning home to Northern Ireland found it difficult to secure employment relevant to suicide prevention and so have moved into another area of psychology. I would dearly love to be employed in suicide prevention work and to further promote suicide awareness and support suicide prevention but no opportunities have presented themselves. I have tried to create opportunities but, unfortunately, to no avail and will continue my networking efforts in an attempt to open doors. I'm mindful of the old adage, 'It's not what you know, but who you know.' If you read the contents of the website you'll appreciate that I know a lot about suicide and so it's just a case of who I know. What can I say? I'll continue networking...and hoping...

The moral of the story is;

  • Try not to get disheartened!
  • Hard as it can be, never give up hope!
  • Don't stop believing!
  • Keep trying!

We all have a part to play in suicide prevention, what's yours?
